While installing WordPress in your local system you might get few standard problems like “error configuration”. In default installation you need to follow two steps for successful installation. First step we need to create database in the name of “wordpress”. Second step change the database Username to “root” and database Password to “”. If you follow the above two steps you can install wordpress without error.

Note: MySql database default username is root and password is “” (blank).

How to remove meta / blogroll widget?

18 Oct

When i started this blog i found meta/blogroll widget in the side bar.  I tried removing by dragging and placing the Meta widget into Inactive Widgets area and searched for Blogroll widget but couldn’t find it in Available widgets. Then googled for sometime and no use :( .  The reason for this is both the widgets are coded in sidebar.php.

<li><?php wp_register('', ''); ?></li>
<li><?php wp_loginout(); ?></li>
<li><a href="<?php bloginfo('rss2_url'); ?>">Entries RSS</a></li>
<li><a href="<?php bloginfo('comments_rss2_url'); ?>">Comments RSS</a></li>
<li><a href=""></a></li>

<?php wp_list_bookmarks('title_li=&categorize=0'); ?>

So, if u dont want those widgets go to Appearance > Editor then select sidebar.php and check for the above code and remove it and update the file. If your theme has 2-3 sidebar.php file then check in all those files.  Now view your site you can see those widgets  vanished ;)
